Hybrid Cannabis Varieties Made Simple by Granny

So far, we have looked at Indica and Sativa varieties in depth here on The Green Life Granny’s blog. Now it is time to look at the third variety of cannabis strain, hybrids. Hybrid cannabis strains are probably the most common type of cannabis strain available today. This is due to the many different breeders and geneticists that have worked with Sativas and Indicas over the years to create hundreds of new strains!

If you guessed that hybrids are a combination of Sativa and Indica genetics, you are correct. Hybrid cannabis varieties are any cannabis strain that was created by combining Indica and Sativa genetics together to create strains that offer characteristic traits from both parent strains and varieties.
There are many benefits to hybrid cannabis strains but the biggest is their ability to offer characteristics from both Indica and Sativa genetics. Take for example a medical cannabis patient who suffers from chronic pain. Higher THC Indica strains offer the most benefits, however, when consumed during the day tend to cause a major case of couch lock aka sleepiness. This is not good when said patient must be able to function to work and take care of their family during the day. A hybrid however that offers the pain relieving benefits of a higher THC content combined with the uplifting effects of a Sativa could be just the right balance to bring this patient relief without interfering with their day to day routine!
When it comes to cultivating hybrid strains of cannabis the characteristics inherited from parents differ between them all. Hybrids tend to be Sativa or Indica dominant. According to many, their dominant parent strain will determine will be the strain that hybrids resemble most when it comes to cultivating them. So if you are growing a Sativa dominant hybrid, chances are it will look much like a Sativa.
