One of the questions Granny gets all the time is Granny, why does cannabis help so many people? This is a common question that many people have seeing how when it comes to pharmaceuticals we have dozens of different drugs that are utilized to treat the same conditions and then we have cannabis which is a single plant that can treat several different diseases and conditions all by itself. When it comes to the answer to this question it begins to become very complex and I like to just say that it’s because cannabis is awesome however it’s much more detailed than that. If you have ever wondered this question yourself light up a joint and join me as I try to explain how cannabis is able to help so many people with so many different illnesses without confusing you even more!
When it comes to how cannabis is a medicine and how it is able to help so many different people find relief from a plethora of different ailments and diseases it all boils down to what is known as the endocannabinoid system. This fancy system that I just learned about in recent years is responsible for creating what is known as a state of homeostasis in your body. This basically means that this system is responsible for keeping all the other systems in your body on track and working correctly so that everything is happy inside and out.
The endocannabinoid system is located throughout the entire human body as well as the body of every other living mammal known to man. Within the endocannabinoid system, there are receptors just like there are in many others body systems that you’re familiar with such as your digestive system or respiratory system. These receptors within the endocannabinoid system are known as CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB is short for cannabinoid as these are the receptors that receive essential cannabinoids from cannabis when consumed.
These receptors are located throughout your brain and skin as well as many other vital organs in your body. When cannabis is consumed whether it be through smoking, dabbing, ingesting edibles or applying topicals cannabinoids in those products are absorbed by these receptors in your body’s endocannabinoid system. Once activated by cannabinoids these receptors begin to talk to each other as well as cells within your body to create two way communication.
Through activation of this two-way communication, it helps your body to obtain a state of homeostasis. Whether you consume cannabis by smoking it to relieve nausea or by applying it to your skin to relieve pain in your joints or muscles cannabis and the cannabinoids within it are able to help so many people with a plethora of different ailments because of the endocannabinoid system.
